Picaro Kim at Frankfurt Book Fair
Picaro Kim had a great time at Frankfurt Book Fair this year. Here she tells us about her visit and shares some snaps from the trip too.
Wow! What a fun trip to Frankfurt I had! As soon as we landed in Frankfurt on Wednesday, we had a quick stop-off at our hotel and then went straight to the Fair. It was so busy; I felt quite small around all the adults, but everyone was so welcoming. The Fair was much bigger than I expected and every space was filled with people talking about books. The floor with the education stands was a hive of activity. The first afternoon was spent meeting our friends from around the world. We met our friends at IGroup who work with Picaro in Asia and the team at Scientific International who are our helpful friends in India.
At the end of our first day, I wasn’t ready to go back to the hotel just yet – so we went to a restaurant for dinner. We walked around the centre of Frankfurt and found a restaurant that had been recommended. I was really looking forward to it because I’d never tried Ethiopian food before. We ate the food with our hands, using injera bread to scoop up the meat and vegetables. It was delicious, but by the time we had finished, I was ready for bed!
On Thursday it was a little cloudy and rainy, but it didn’t stop me jumping out of bed ready for an exciting day at the Fair. Once I arrived in the Buchmesse (that’s “Book Fair” in German) I popped in to see my friend Hani at Velawoods and explored the ELT stands in Hall 4. All of the learning resources on show really got me thinking about ideas for how we can help even more children around the world learn English. I can’t wait to share my ideas with Zoe, Jamal, Draco, Yuki, Charlie, Dan and the other Picaroons!
My little Picaroon feet were starting to hurt by the afternoon; there’s a lot of walking at Frankfurt Book Fair and so at the end of the day, we went to a traditional Italian trattoria and I made friends with the waiter. I filled my Picaroon tummy up with rich, tomato and mozzarella pizza. Yum!
Friday was our final day at the Fair. At first, I went to a talk about Women’s Literature but I didn’t find it very exciting; I was just too excited to meet my friends Maria and Eleni from Cyprus. Maria said the children in her school are LOVING learning with Picaro and that made me so happy. Maybe I can go and visit them next year.
After seeing Maria, there was time for one more look around the Fair so I found Georgia and we played some VR. I felt sad to be leaving but excited to return to England to see the rest of the Picaroons.
And now I’m back in London, reflecting on my trip. I’m looking forward to next year already.
